3 Ways to Identify Anti-Blackness in the Workplace (& Life)
--
Rooted in Lived Experience
It’s revolutionary to have co-designed a space to talk about the hard things.
This subjective reality, an embodiment of the Lovelution I could only dream of 8 years ago, when I coined the term as how I wanted to feel in life. leadership, and business. Now, the result of the radical, bite-sized, and deliberate steps taken every damn day for the last two years, in particular.
Ya know, that never-ending panorama that we’re still navigating?!
Personally, I’ve gone from mustering the courage to say the hard thing as an organizational leader to being grounded and grateful for the unconditional love and support nurtured at the interpersonal and community level that allows me to show up authentically and unapologetically Mama J.
I am whole 💓 It’s from this place that I write this piece for anyone who has the courage to read it.
Change is Uncomfortable
What follows will make you uncomfortable.
This is how change is activated.
When you feel the discomfort happen, I lovingly ask that you pause to BREATHE. Notice what you’re feeling.
That feeling is a data point. — Mama J
If you can name it, write it down and even take a few minutes to reflect on it.
Just make sure you come back to keep reading 😉
Say the Thing
First, I want to acknowledge and give love to the brilliant Black woman executive and DEI champion, who had the vision to bring myself and Kishshana Palmer, fellow Gemini Black mamapreneur, together. While I intentionally protect her confidentiality, it’s critical to name how Black women can find the intersects in our zone of genius to lead from our strengths. In doing so, Kishshana & I became the “Care Team” for this executive and later a fourth Black woman executive at the organization.
Holding this space for/with/among these 3 Black women changed me.
